Ari's run in with RSV

We all ended up with a nasty cold this February, unfortunately Arianna's immune system could not handle it as well as the rest of us. She had 2 rough nights battling with severe congestion, after night one, we called the dr and they said to give her saline drops in her nose to break up the congestion. After night two we brought her in to the doctor's office and things quickly got scary!

Dr Rodriguez said Ari had 2 bad ear infections and that the congestion was in her lungs. She gave her 3 treatments of albueteral in the office and gave her oxygen- both through a mask. During one of the treatments, Ari's O2 stats dropped into the 70's and she went unconscious. Momma, an amazing nurse and myself were able to get her to start breathing again and by then the doctor had called for an abulance.
She was taken to Children's hospital and I rode in the front seat. My Mom and Edward both drove up there and Gary, Beka and Monica met us up there. Just like at NW Pediatrics, all of the staff at Children's were amazing! They immediately put in an IV, hooked her up to the heart and O2 monitors and gave her more oxygen. They did a chest Xray, a urine test and a culture of the mucous in her chest. They ruled out pneumonia but diagnosed her with RSV. She was admitted into the hospital that afternoon.

Edward and Remy had been planning a trip to MT with Dan and Edgar to visit Darrien and Ranelle for Darrien's birthday. They were supposed to leave that night but Edward didnt want to leave Arianna! I encouraged them to go since Remy could not visit at the hospital due to the recent H1N1 precautions as well as the fact that Ari was to be in isolation. In the end, they went to MT and had a great trip!

My Momma stayed at the hospital with Ari and I, for all 3 days. The first night, every time we laid Ari down on her back to change her or get her suctioned out, her oxygen levels dropped. Momma and I did not want to lay her in the crib to sleep but the nurse said that we could not sleep with her in our arms, for fear that we would drop her. So... we took turns staying up the entire night holding her in our arms. Since I was still pretty sick, it made for a rough next day physically for me, but I was so focused on Ari that it was not important.

She was showing marked improvement with the IV antibiotics for her ear infections, the tylenol for her fever and the constant deep suction through her nose that the nurses did every 2 hours. She was still rattling with congestion in her chest and nose/throat but was clearly able to cough up more and clear some of it. She even smiled on day 2 at the hospital, a drastic improvement from the lethargic, closed eyes whimpering that we saw on day 1.

By day 3 they said that she could go home since she was able to breathe well enough to keep her oxygen levels up by herself. They said she would continue to cough and battle congestion for at least another week, and later the dr explained that she would be much more susceptible to future colds this season. She also said there was a higher risk of the cold moving into her chest fast so to be cautious and keep her away from kids and sick people. She is back at home and getting better every day. Her only trip out of the house has been to her follow up appointment. We are going to try and give her some time to recover before venturing out again! She is still really congested but making improvements everyday. We are praying that she will make a solid recovery and that there will be no lasting effects such as asthma. Thank you to everyone for your loving support and prayers throughout this last week!!

Ari and Rem

We are having such a great time with our little ones!! Ari is such a great sleeper!! She has been sleeping about 5 hours for her first stretch of the night and eats every 2-3 hours after that. She is amazing! She is happy and alert when she is awake and loves to eat! She is gaining weight fast, at her 1month checkup she was 9lbs 15oz - 3 lbs more than when she was born... and most of it is in her chin and cheeks! Remy is an amazing big brother, holding her and kissing her constantly throughout the day! He has taken on my childhood nickname 'constant comment' and is a very talented speaker already! Most of his day is spent in negotiations! He will be great in speech and debate when he gets into school!! We are very blessed to have two wonderful kiddos!

9 months and waiting...

Here I am at 9 months. The waiting is so difficult. I have been having contractions on and off this week - 39 weeks. They set an induction date for December 8th if she doesn't introduce herself by then. I hope she comes out tonight though!! We are all ready for you Ari!!

Halloween and 8 month photo

We had a great time trick or treating this year. Three is such a fun age for activities like that! The weather was great and we met up with a few other families and enjoyed the long walk and the kids' bright eyes!

I am still enjoying my pregnancy, not too uncomfortable but I am starting to get a tiny bit anxious for her arrival! She seems to still have enough room to move around A LOT! She is head down now so hopefully she stays that way until delivery! Remy is definitely going through the adjustment already. He always snuggles her and sings to her but then 10 minutes later he is pretending to be a baby himself and wants to be babied by Edward and I. I suspect it is just the beginning of things to come:)

Here I am at 7 months, Ari is still laying transverse (sideways) but my new doctor, Dr Metcalf (Dr Snyder retired) says it is okay as long as she turns by 36 weeks. We will see if she decides to cooperate.

Today

We had such a great day today! Edward was off golfing early and Alicia brought Jaylen over for a visit. After that we headed to our doctor appointment with Edward but the dr was off to deliver a baby so we... went to the park! We went to Dashpoint Park and played near the water! How fun!!

Swim classes

Remy is taking swim classes at the aquatic center, he has had 3 classes and is warming up well. The first class he cried when the instructor looked at him, now he calls his name to look at what he is doing! He and fellow swimmer, Stella, are the only ones in this class but Stella is the only on that will let instructor Jason help her. Remy then mimics her actions and learns that way. Either way he is getting better every class! And the experience of taking a class is great for him!

Welcome Oliver
